I thank God for calling Dr Bobby Sng into student work so that i could be a beneficiary of his ministry while in medical school in the 70's.
There are a few things he had said that had impacted me deeply. As a medical student, i remember being very involved in campus ministry but not in church. He would say, "Medical school is only 5 years of your life. But you will be in your church for the rest of your life." He always highlighted the importance of serving the local church. Another was "To whom much is given, much is required". There can never be a reason not to serve when I have been so blessed. He spoke of "some are thinkers and some are doers". I have decided very early on that I belong to the group of "doers". Before I enter into cross-cultural ministry, he was the one to prophetically asked,"Are you sure God is not calling you to long-term missions?"
Dr Sng and Ivy modelled for me obedience, humility, service and hospitality. I want to remember the word of God through his preaching. I want to learn from his life of service. I want to imitate his steadfast faith. I will remember his frequent prayer request in the last year which was to go home. He is finally home, in the loving arms of Jesus .
"Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith." - Hebrews 13:7
Hui Kheng (currently overseas and sadly will miss the wake and funeral. I won't be able to say "good-bye" but hope to say "hello" to Dr Sng in heaven one day)
We have lost a great leader & friend! As I reflect on Dr Sng’s influence & help in the development on the Trs’ Christian Fellowship (TCF) in the late 1960s & 1970s, we are very grateful to Dr Sng. He stood up for us in a difficult & delicate time, when TCF members were mainly non-graduates, to be integrated with GCF. We were mainly Certificate-trained from the Teachers’ Training College. Those who had a degree in teaching preferred to be associated with GCF rather than TCF.
But Dr Sng stood by us and encouraged us on. He spoke at our conferences in Cameron Highlands & in Penang.
On a personal level, Dr Sng was a mentor to me in those years. He struck me as someone who was very sincere & genuine in friendship. I had been too embroiled in my teaching, developing my career, church & family over the last few decades to meet him to express my gratitude.
In the one of the sessions of BSF last Oct, we were asked to identify who were the people who had played a role in our lives. I could easily name Dr Sng as the key person in my Christian & profession life in my 1960s & 1970s.
Knowing that Dr Sng couldn’t attend any FES or GCF functions, we were fortunate to have the opportunity to visit him & Mrs Sng last Feb. We had a great time reminiscing the fellowship we had decades ago.
Dr Sng, you would be sorely missed by all whom you have touched. We will rejoice with you as you receive your crown of glory! You have fought a good fight, finished the race and kept the faith! Thank God for you & your family.

Thank Dr Sng for his ministry and impact in our lives when we were in VCF in the mid 1980s.
Truly blessed to sit at your feet Dr Sng to listen to your teaching and exhortations. Like J Stott you reminded us to be BBC (balanced biblical Christian) in both our thinking (theology) and living (doxology) of our faith in the community.
Gentle in spirit, always smiling and speaks passionately the Word from his kind heart always.
Saw him couple of months ago with group of closed friends and sad to see how physically weak he was. Yet glad to know he’s finally home; home with His dear Lord as he has waited and wanted so much....Thank God who has been good and gracious to him and his household especially with the loving care and tender ministry of his wife Dr Ivy at be bedside.
Thank you Dr Sng for giving to the Lord!
“And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this down: Blessed are those who die in the Lord from now on. Yes, says the Spirit, they are blessed indeed, for they will rest from their hard work; for their good deeds follow them!”” Revelation 14:13 NLT (P.s. writing from London. Will miss him. Miss joining the saints in Singapore for his wake and funeral.)

Thank you so much Chye Kheng for keeping me posted. Unfortunately, I am now in Japan and would not be back until Oct 20.
Dr Sng has impacted my life much during our days at VCF 1981 to 1985. The last time I wrote to him was to write the foreword to a book about Pastor Kong Hee. He declined and advised not to highlight the issue. This is inline with his character - a man of high intellectual ability, just wants to humbly do God’s work and keep a low profile.
I have read his book,”In His Good Time” which captured the history of the Singapore church. Not sure who will be able to continue this story.
